7down and 6 to go...

Good morning :-) today is day 7 of my pre op diet and I am feeling wonderful, have been eating lean protein, veggies, fruit, and when I'm craving a sweet I'm eating sugar free pudding or Popsicles.

I have been having good fats and veggie carbs. I do believe in this lifestyle change that things shouldn't be cut out, just portion control and make good food choices 98% of the time.

Example is that I LOVE tacos. So the other day i had fish tacos but instead of a taco shell I used a romaine lettuce leave with tomatoes, avocados, and some black beans with hit sauce. It satisfied my craving without eating bad carbs. But to tell you the truth a little bit of bad carb every once in a while won't kill you! Once you start "cutting things out" is when you start being on a "diet" and you will fail.

Finds:

So I wanted to share a yummy find.... 80 calories and 12 grams of protein. These are so good! They have several flavors including a chocolate and cherry... MUST have! :-)

Well I'm sure these next few days before my surgery will fly by but I'm actually doing pretty good.... Not too nervous yet but I am also very lucky to have a great support system.... I'm very grateful for all of them especially my Boyfriend. He is great and always supports me and I love him for that :-)

Happy Friday!

Day 5...9 to go....

Well it is day 5, not craving sweets really anymore which is good...still think OMG I want one when I walk by those damn reeses eggs :-( but I am resisting the Easter candy! :-) Yesterday was tough towards the end of the day...due to the lack of calories (only about 500-600 a day) I am getting pretty tired at the end of the day, not sleepy tired, but my body is just worn out. I am actually going to call the doctor this morning and see if there is any suggestions and make sure that this calorie count is what they really want.  I am completely off coffee, however every few days I am allowing myself a few sips because eventually after surgery I intend to be a coffee drinker again if I can because I love it!

Since every one is on a different pre-op diet I figured I would share mine because everyone seems pretty shocked about the calories :-) My diet is for the two weeks before surgery. My three meals consist of 1.5oz of protein, 2oz of veggies or fruit, but I tend to go for the veggies because they keep me full longer. Then in between the three meals I have 8oz of milk with protein powder. If I get hungry at all in between I am having a sugar free popsicle or sugar free fat free jello, but really I am usually only having that after dinner.

Anyways.... I am hoping these two weeks go by fast because I am ready to have my surgery and start recovering. :-) Have a fantastic day!

Oh almost forgot there is a great tip on the blog "The world according to Egg Face" and I am going to put this on my list. I just love her blog!! here is the link:

Lesson learned

Cottage cheese with fruit for lunch was a bad idea! I tried the cottage cheese instead of my fish or chicken and I was burnt out with no energy by about 4pm. :-( won't do that again :-)

Day 3

So far so good. On day three of my diet. Still need to work on getting more water, however I'm completely off coffee with no headaches anymore. I'm struggling at night with sweet cravings but have not given in to temptation. Instead I have a spoon full of sugar free pudding or a no sugar added Popsicle. Also my new favorite tea helps too. It is licorice spice and it tastes like I am eating licorice. It's amazing!!

Here is my day three lunch: 1/4 cup lowfat cottage cheese and 2oz of fruit. I swapped my morning fruit to have at lunch because I had been told it is better to start the day with a veggie so I have eggs and avacado for my morning meal.

In case you are interested in the tea here is a picture of the box:

Happy sunday to all! I'm going to go plant some tomatoes.

2 weeks

Well as of tomorrow I will be two weeks away from my surgery date. I start my pre-op diet in the morning.  At this point I'm a good mix of excited and nervous. I had my pre op appointment yesterday and I got registered with the hospital.
So I'm ready to go!

Whole Coconut milk

I almost forgot one thing! During the process after surgery once you are able to have regular food if you find you are loosing weight too fast and are concerned a healthy suggestion I heard about was to buy whole coconut milk and put a tablespoon of it (the creme portion) in your protein shakes. This will add a little healthy fat to your diet as well as some yummy flavor.

Of course check with your doctor but this is my plan of attack because "skinny fat" isn't pretty lol with these surgeries sometimes you will loose so drastically and since you can't eat much you don't get enough fat and your body will burn muscle which will give you that skinny fat look. You want to keep all your muscle and just burn fat :-) the goal is to keep muscle tone.

Check with your doctor... But this is my plan of attack :-) especially when I start working out. There needs to be a healthy balance between calories and fat burned and intake.

**this is usually found with the Asian food.

3 days until Pre-op

Well it's is 3 days until my two week pre-op diet starts. So far I have been good about my vitamins. Still trying to wean off coffee and need to start my walking. It doesn't seem like my surgery is so close, it's odd but in not nervous really at all. Ask me again the night before haha.

I'm going to go an buy my pre-op food this week. My brother Inlaw actually suggested that with breakfast instead of doing the 2oz of fruit to do a veggie, like avacado. He said it is better for you cortisol levels and since women normally have more spikes and drops in cortisol that it would help stabelize it to start my day without sugar.

Another thing I will be doing as well is during my post op period since clear liquids don't really have fat or calories I will be having 1tsp of coconut oil twice a day. He said it will help with my energy and will also put a little fat in my diet because when you have no fat to burn your body starts eating your muscle tissue for fuel. It sounds gross but It will go down easy because coconut oil is a solid until it gets warm and then melts. Now I'm not a medical professional, but these are things I am trying and I will let you know how it goes :-)

Where are you in your journey? I hope this is helpful.

How I'm feeling? Not worried, not stressed, just kind of going with the flow.
Check back during the pre-op diet lol I will probably be starving even though it will all be mental not physical. :-)

Getting ready....

My 2 week preop diet starts soon so I am starting to get everything ready. Thismorning my coffee maker died sooo I took the hint and changed my coffee station to my vitamin, tea, and shakes section.

As you can see I have a nutribullet, this is perfect for smoothies and will come in handy while on purees.... They are about $100 but worth every penny!!! I wanted to share another good find, I got a mini scale I can use at the house and also it can travel with me in my purse. I got it on amazon for $7.00 shipped, the scale is accurate and I love it!

Hope this helps some people. I'm horrible about taking my vitamins so I decided to put them where my beloved coffee maker used to be so I would remember to take them.  :-)

Hunger

So I have decided that the worst part about cutting portions right now is feeling hungry. I know I am eating healthier foods so I'm not really hungry but trying to get over the mental part... I have been told after surgery it won't be as bad.

Goal for tomorrow is to drink more water also I need to start walking. I'm trying to get into habits before my surgery so that it isn't so hard later.

Win for the day is that I haven't had any soda for a few days and I'm on day two of only one cup of coffee a day... Next cut out sugar. I think I will get some sugar free jello to help with my post dinner sweet tooth. :-) good night all.

4 weeks until surgery

So I have 4 weeks until surgery.....It seems like forever but I know it will be here before I know it! I have started some transitions.

1. Cutting back my coffee....started drinking only ONE cup a day instead of one POT a day ;-)
2. For my in between meals I am drinking my 8 oz of almond milk and protein powder (blah! but I will get used to it!)
3. Drinking more water
4. Practicing sipping instead of gulping
5. Cutting out soda
6. Smaller bites of food, and eating slower.

As the month progresses I will get more strict, but so far this is what I am doing. I am also getting receipe ideas, connecting with other people who have gone through or are going through the same thing, and just  preparing myself for the road ahead.

I am on "My fitness Pal" and have meat some really nice people... I really like the forums there! I am going to end this by suggestion a nice guy on the forums told me about:

Have a wonderful Tuesday!
